The Abbey
Community Theatre was formed in 1984 with a three-fold purpose. Firstly, to provide amateur drama in the
southern area of Northampton, secondly to enable amateur thespians the
opportunity of acting on the stage and finally, to raise money for a variety of
charitable causes.
We put on
three major productions a year at the Abbey Centre usually in March, June, and
either late November or early December. These plays comprise a mixture of
comedies, thrillers, farces, dramas and every alternate year, we present a
pantomime. We have so far staged over 80
plays as you can see from the list of past productions.
Our
rehearsals take place on Tuesday and Friday evenings with some extra rehearsals
close to the date of the play. We have a
wide age range of members, from early 20s to early 80s, with extra colleagues
recruited for special productions such as the pantomimes. Not all members
‘tread the boards‘ but take on other duties such as backstage or Front of House.
We are
always delighted to have new members and if you are interested in taking part
in future productions please give me, Derek Wilson, a ring on 01604 761291 or email here.
